About us
Situated in the heart of the Overberg, in the picturesque farming town of Swellendam you will find Schoone Oordt Country House. This well-known and much photographed Victorian landmark presides over 5000m2 of lush grounds, incorporating eight magnificently crafted, luxurious suites and a romantic honeymoon hide-away. The grounds contain manicured lawns, secret woodland glades, vegetable/herb gardens, a sparkling swimming pool, tranquil fountains and a fragrant rose garden.   After almost five years of painstaking restoration and building (most of which has been done by Richard himself), the property has been instilled with love, heart and soul and the aged walls have been given a new lease on life. Schoone Oordt Country House is now home to the Walkers, their sons Kai and Ashe, Roy Hunter (friend and partner)and a selection of family pets..    Echoing the past, Swellendam continues to be a place of rest, relaxation and replenishment for travellers. Swellendam is situated on the N2 halfway between Cape Town and George, approximately 220km either way.

 

		Your Wedding at Schoone Oordt
		Schoone Oordt Country House is a perfect venue for weddings, birthday parties and corporate functions, in fact, any kind of celebration. The roomy, conservatory area comfortably seats up to 70 people, the grand indoor banquet room seats up to 20 guests and the garden has a purpose built grassy arena for larger functions. Each celebration can be tailor-made to suit the individual and Alison is more than happy to assist with all planning and creating! Alison has years of experience in the advertising industry and in event production, so if you have a celebration in mind, Ali will bring it to life!

 

Accommodation
Eight newly built luxury guest cottages and a honeymoon cottage have been meticulously constructed to compliment the character and style of the main house and a larger family unit is still underway. Each suite has been furnished to meet even the most discerning taste. Collectors’ pieces and antiques add to the unadulterated luxury of every exceptional room.     The Luxury Suites   Positioned around bubbling fountains and a fragrant rose garden are eight luxurious suites, each with their own separate entrance. After a long day’s drive, have an afternoon nap on the custom-made 100%cotton percale and goose down bedding. Step into the huge shower or take a soak in hot bath and listen to the country birdsong just outside the window. Then help yourself to a drink from the mini-bar, pull up a comfortable chair and watch the African sun set from your own private patio. Honeymoon suite   Tucked away in a corner of the garden, lies the romantic honeymoon hideaway. Brush past the brightly flowering fuschia’s onto the secluded patio and open the french doors to a world of elegant sophistication. Relax into crisp custom-made 100% cotton percale linen and goose down bedding adorning the ornately carved four-poster bed and forget about the world outside.    Step into the oversized shower or sink into a beautiful Victorian ball and claw bath while the day’s journey slips off you in a froth of delicate Charlotte Rhys bubbles. Wrap yourself in one of the fluffy embroidered gowns and feel the extravagance of a heated bathroom floor.   Relax in your own comfortable private lounge with a drink from the well-equipped mini-bar. Or if it's chilly outside, make a steaming mug of tea or coffee, stoke up the fireplace and jump right back into bed.
