Limpopo Province is the Northern-most province in South Africa and borders on 3 other African Countries, namely Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The "great, green, greasy" Limpopo River gives this unique province its name.
It boasts three prominent mountain ranges, namely the Waterberg, the Soutpansberg and the Drakensberg. These contribute to the incredible bio-diversity of this province with its forests and more than 600 bird species. The Tropic of Capricorn runs through this province.
Limpopo is divided into four tourism areas: Waterberg, Capricorn, Soutpansberg and Valley of the Olifants. Within these areas are three national parks and three heritage sites. The national parks include the world famous Kruger National Park and Mapungupwe Park and Heritage Site. The lure of the Big Five encourages tourists to travel to this area. Added to this are the cultural experiences that visitors can participate in, or more active pursuits such as 4x4 trails, hiking and rock climbing, so Limpopo can offer people unique travel opportunities.
Limpopo can be defined as a real rainbow nation, being home to English, Afrikaans, Venda, Tsonga and Northern Sotho people. The Rain Queen of Modjadji lives in the Valley of the Olifants.
Limpopo can be called the pantry of South Africa with fertile farmlands growing a huge array of tropical fruits, nuts, grapes and many other food products.
Weddings in Limpopo
Limpopo is perfect for your destination wedding if you are travelling from abroad or from another area in South Africa, or if you live there, you are spoilt for choice.
The game reserves around the Waterberg and the reserves bordering on the Kruger Park and lodges in the Northern Kruger Park offer perfect bush wedding venues where you can combine a safari wedding with a trip of a lifetime for you and your guests.
The beautiful forests, mountains and valleys of the Valley of the Olifants, mainly around Magoebaskloof, have wonderful lodges and country hotels perfect for a fairytale wedding. In spring the cherry blossoms near the village of Haenertsburg are a sight to behold and are a perfect back drop to a country wedding.
There are magical, mystical lakes situated in the Capricorn area near the magnificent Soutpansberg Mountains. This is an area of forests, both natural and man-made, with some really special traditional sculptures made out of wood or clay to be seen in the small villages. Lesheba Lodge outside Louis Trichardt is one of the lodges which has used these to great effect. Unfortunately they do not hold weddings here, but what a magical place for your African honeymoon.
